Young Family

Profile:

A couple with a young child came to Bradway to ask for some help evaluating their employer’s 403b retirement plan and related benefits. The couple, both teachers, also wanted to gain an education in financial matters so they could ensure that they were asking the right questions and making the right decisions.

Helping educate this couple in financial matters, so that they could confidently have conversations with the family business, formed a firm foundation for our relationship and their financial future.

Bradway Plan:

Although they were both highly educated, the couple readily admitted that they didn’t have the financial knowledge they needed. As their relationship with their advisor blossomed, they asked the advisor to help them understand the couple’s bigger financial picture, which included significant assets from a business that had been in the wife’s family for generations.

The couple felt in the dark when it came to the family business. They didn’t speak the business lingo. They didn’t understand what it meant in terms of their future. And they didn’t have a grasp of how the assets could be leveraged to help them realize their family goals. Over two-year period, Bradway learned about the firm alongside the husband, who became educated to the point that he could have meaningful conversations about the family business.

The husband’s ultimate realization was that while he was fully capable of learning and understanding the financial world, and that he could become “self-sufficient,” it was much more work than he had time for. So the couple partnered with Bradway to get the right legal and financial instruments in place. They also utilized the expertise of the broader Bradway team to handle issues related to the family business, estate planning, trusts, insurance and investments.

Today they have the reassurance of knowing that Bradway is completely familiar with and continually monitoring their personal finances. They’ve become comfortable making financial decisions. And they have confidence that they are making smart financial choices to support their long-term goals.
