Kate is chairman of the board and CEO of Viable Solutions, LLC, an international marketing and distribution company for financial services products. As a partner in Bradway B2B, Kate helps business-owner clients ensure that their workplace retirement plans provide maximum benefits while remaining in compliance with myriad federal regulations.
Kate has an extensive background in financial services, including serving as executive vice president of Citigroup International from 2002 to 2004. Citigroup International is the international business unit of Citigroup, Inc. It provides a broad range of consumer credit and banking, investment management, insurance and corporate and investment banking services to more than 50 million customers across the globe.
Prior to Citigroup International, Kate held several other management positions at Citigroup, including serving as president and chief operating officer of e-Citi, the e-business arm of Citigroup. During her tenure as president of e-Citi, Kate was recognized as one of the top 50 technology innovators in the country.
Kate joined Citigroup in October 1998 as general counsel of Citigroup’s Global Consumer Business. She was responsible for all legal matters relating to banking, credit cards, financing and insurance as well as for CitiStreet (formerly The Copeland Companies), one of the nation’s largest providers of 401k and other qualified and non-qualified retirement plans. She was appointed to that position after serving as senior vice president and general counsel at Travelers Life and Annuity Company, then a unit of Travelers Group, beginning in May 1996. In that capacity, she was centrally involved in the creation of Citigroup as part of the October 1998 merger of Travelers Group and Citicorp.
Before joining Travelers, Kate served as senior vice president and general counsel of the Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company from 1994 to 1996. As the company’s chief legal officer, Kate was responsible for all legal and regulatory aspects of Connecticut Mutual’s 1996 merger with MassMutual. From 1988 to 1994, Kate was special counsel and chief of staff at the Aetna Life and Casualty Company. She began her professional career in Washington, D.C., as an assistant executive director of the American Bar Association and director of its Legal Services Group.
Kate has served as a member of Georgetown University Law Center’s board of visitors. She co-founded and served on the board of directors of Lawyers for Children America from 2004 to 2010. She has also served as a member of the New York Stock Exchange Individual Investors Committee, as chairwoman of the Center for Community Interest and as a member of the board of directors of the American Bar Endowment and the American Corporate Counsel Association. She is currently a member of the board of trustees of Baystate Health in Springfield, Massachusetts.
